After a nationwide search, United Way of Ventura County has announced that Thomas E. Rummel will become the organization’s new president on March 15.

Rummel, 50, previously served as executive director of United Way of Lawrence County in New Castle, Pa.

Rummel graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and began working for IBM Corp. During his 14 years with the company, he received an MBA from Southern Methodist University and was the manager of IBM’s office systems branch in Los Angeles.

In recent years, Rummel worked as the director of relocation for Merrill Lynch Corp. in Los Angeles and served as president of the National Real Estate Assistance Corp. in Cincinnati.

Rummel said he is looking forward to helping achieve the United Way’s goal of “bringing the private and public sectors together to maximize the impact of the generous contributions made to improve the lives of Ventura County residents.”

He will replace interim President Donald A. Yunker, who has served for the last five months after Colleen Hunter-Hancock stepped down.
