A Camarillo couple who had been married 59 years died within 30 hours of each other last week, mortuary officials said Monday.

Alice McMahon, 84, died of internal bleeding at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo on Wednesday. Her husband, Thomas, 85, died at home Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage.

The couple were described by family members as “inseparable.”

“They went everywhere together,” said Kevin McMahon, one of the couple’s four children. “I figured that once one went, the other wouldn’t live long.

“After Mom died, Dad didn’t want to live any longer.”

The McMahons’ memorial services were held at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo on Saturday. Interment will be held this summer in Missouri, where both were born.

The McMahons grew up on the same street in St. Louis and had been high school sweethearts, their son said.

Thomas McMahon, a graduate of the University of Missouri, worked for 38 years as a chemical engineer. An avid photographer, he also traveled extensively throughout Europe with his wife.

They retired to Camarillo’s Leisure Village 18 years ago.

The McMahons are survived by two sons, two daughters and six grandchildren.
