OJAI : School to Host Comedy Benefit

Share

The Parent-Teacher Organization of Summit School in Ojai will sponsor a comedy night Saturday to raise money for playground equipment at the kindergarten through sixth-grade school.

Scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Ojai Women’s Club at 441 E. Ojai Ave., the fund-raiser will feature performances by two professional comedians: Jerry Swallow and Cary Odes. Odes’ credits include televised performances at the Improv comedy club in Los Angeles.

Reservations are required for the event. Cost is $12.50 per person, including refreshments and a cash bar.

The comedy night was the idea of Parent-Teacher Organization President Valerie Levett, who said she is an old friend of Odes.

Levett asked Odes if he would perform for free at the benefit. He not only agreed but enlisted help from fellow comedian Swallow.

All the money raised at the event will go toward completing a playground at Summit School that the Ojai Unified School District could not afford to build.

The Parent-Teacher Organization has built part of the playground with a $5,000 loan from the school district, which the organization is trying to repay. The parents’ group needs an additional $8,000 to buy more equipment for the playground, Levett said.
