A Ventura woman who had a bleeding disorder died Monday after she was injured in a car accident Saturday and physicians were unable to stop the bleeding from a ruptured spleen, authorities said.

Linda Mae Killgore, 50, was pronounced dead at 1:49 p.m. Monday in the intensive care unit of Ventura County Medical Center, Ventura Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.

Killgore was alert with what appeared to be minor injuries following the accident, in which her vehicle collided with a car driven by David Hume, 35, of Ventura, Stevens said.

“Outwardly, her condition did not appear serious. She had a bump on the head and complained of some pain to her abdomen,” he said. “But her condition rapidly went downhill.”

Stevens said emergency room physicians administered various medications to stop her internal bleeding, but the efforts failed because Killgore had a chronic bleeding disorder similar to hemophilia. “Nothing they tried stopped the bleeding,” he said.

Ventura police are seeking additional witnesses to the accident, which occurred just before 3 p.m. Saturday at Telephone Road and Saticoy Avenue. Witnesses are asked to call Ventura Police Cpl. John Turner at 339-4435. Police said they are trying to clear up conflicting accounts of the accident.
