GLENDALE : Proposal Targets Charity Bingo Profits

Share

An amendment to the city’s bingo ordinance allowing the city to fine charities up to $10,000 if anyone other than the sponsoring organization profits from a bingo game held on its premises will be considered today by the Glendale City Council.

The amendment is being proposed to keep the city’s bingo regulations in line with state law, said Scott Howard, city attorney. The council will meet at 2 p.m. in council chambers, 613 E. Broadway.

The council will review several other amendments to the city’s bingo ordinance, including allowing up to $2,000 per month in profits to be used for property rental or overhead costs, and approving a call by charities for pull-tab bingo.

Pull-tab bingo, featuring lottery-size cards that, when pulled open, show a winning dollar amount, or three lemons for a losing card, are not allowed in Glendale under the city’s current ordinance, Howard said.

There are five charitable organizations now permitted to hold bingo games in the city.
