Prep Softball ’94 / Six Teams to Watch : FOOTHILL
Coach: Joe Gonzalez (fifth year, 86-32).
1992-93: 19-10, 8-2 in the Century League; lost to Marina, 2-0, in second round of Division I playoffs.
Key returners: Amie Barnes, Jr., second baseman; Stacey Brunansky, Jr., first baseman; Michelle Churnock, Jr., shortstop; Dawn Davidson, Jr., catcher; Shelby Feldmeier, So., third baseman; Marie Gieron, So., right fielder; Marissa Holms, So., outfielder; Tara Lawrence, So., first baseman/outfielder; Julie Metzger, Sr., left fielder; Carley Rutledge, Jr., center fielder; Amy Tessman, Sr., pitcher.
Key newcomers: Jenny Baltran, Fr., infielder; Lauren Bauer, Fr., utility; Ali Stalker, Jr., C; Robin Tessman, Fr., 3B/1B.
Outlook: Only cleanup hitter Christina Mazurie is missing from 1993’s rebuilding lineup, meaning Foothill should be among the county’s top five teams. Leadoff batter Churnock (.432, 26 stolen bases) is a Times All-County player, and Tessman (16-6, 0.32 ERA) is one of the county’s best pitchers. Foothill must do a better job of generating runs this year.
