OXNARD : Woman’s Estate to Benefit 3 Agencies

Share

The dying wish of an Oxnard woman stricken with a debilitating rheumatic disease will help three Ventura County charitable agencies continue their work this year.

The Medical Resource Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club Foundation of Ventura and the Arthritis Foundation of Ventura County have each received $165,000 from the estate of Marilyn Reed.

Reed, 68, died in April after being bedridden for several years with dermatomyositis, an arthritis-like disease of the connective tissues.

“She was a very extraordinary person and wanted to make a difference,” said Millie Schofield, executive director of the Ventura-based Medical Resource Foundation. The gift to the Boys & Girls Club Foundation will ensure that the club can continue serving young people ages 5 to 19. The gift to the local branch of the Arthritis Foundation will help fund research on dermatomyositis as well as support the foundation’s services.

The Medical Resource Foundation supports special programs of the Ventura County Medical Center, with a focus in recent years on newborns, infants and children.
