COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Point Loma Nazarene Gets Past Concordia

Concordia led by 14 points early in the second half, but Point Loma Nazarene rallied for a 90-79 victory in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball playoff game Tuesday at Point Loma Nazarene.

Craig Martin had 24 points and Darren Lax had 22 for Concordia, which ended the season 17-14. Lax had 19 points in the first half as the Eagles opened a 43-32 lead. Robert Amo Amo scored 17 points, 14 in the second half. Point Loma is 15-16.

In another Golden State Athletic Conference playoff game:

Fresno Pacific 106, Southern California College 70--Brothers Tyrone (25 points) and Tim Amundsen (20 points) lead host Fresno Pacific (20-10) in the quarterfinal victory. Eric Carmichael had 16 points and Dan Hyde had 12 for Southern California College, which finishes the season 14-17.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 11-24, Whittier 5-0 (second game, five inning, mercy rule)--Beth Howard pitched a perfect game with nine strikeouts in the second game for host Southern California College. Tracy Scofield and Jen Caruso had six hits each in the doubleheader.

In nonconference baseball:

Texas Northwood 5-3, Southern California College 3-7--Jason Brissey had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in the second game for host Southern California College (6-7). Ila Borders is scheduled to start for SCC when the Vanguards play host to UC San Diego at 2 p.m. Thursday.
