SIMI VALLEY : Meredith to Run for County Supervisor

Share

Jim Meredith, a longtime Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District board member, said Friday he will become the latest entry in an expanding field of candidates seeking Vicky Howard’s county supervisorial seat.

Meredith, 63, said he will formally announce his candidacy Monday.

“I think my record speaks for itself,” Meredith said Friday. In addition to serving on the park board since 1982, the Simi Valley resident has gotten a taste of county government by serving on the county’s Park and Harbor Commission for 10 years, the county’s Beyond 2000 subcommittee and numerous other county and city advisory groups.

While saying he does not want an “ugly” campaign, Meredith lists disappointment in the other candidates as his primary motivation to run.

“The candidates who are running right now, I just didn’t think they’re the type of people I’d want to have represent me as supervisor,” he said. “I think I’m a people person and I don’t think they are. As a county supervisor, you have to be compassionate, you have to listen and then you have to respond.”

Other local officials who have said they plan to seek the seat are Simi Valley Councilwomen Judy Mikels and Barbara Williamson and Moorpark Councilman Scott Montgomery.
