SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Fair Gets Swallows Celebration Started

Share

The annual Community Fair--the first of many events in a six-week celebration of the return of the swallows--will take place today at Cook Park.

Many attractions will be featured: food, crafts and game booths, strolling entertainers, exhibits and music.

But like many Fiesta de las Golondrinas events, the fair will have an Old West element with its amateur Western dance contest.

This year’s competition will allow children to participate.

Also, there will be pony rides, a petting zoo, train rides and face painting. Mimes and animal characters will be roaming the grounds in the afternoon.

The fair will last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cook Park is on Calle Arroyo between La Novia and Rancho Viejo Road. Admission and parking are free, but there will be a small charge for some rides.

“The Community Fair is a great value with entertainment and activities for the entire family,” said Al King, city director of community services. “I encourage everyone to drop by and enjoy the warm hospitality of San Juan Capistrano.”
