Library Bookmobile Service Expanded
The Los Angeles Public Library is expanding its bookmobile service to the San Fernando Valley until more of the 12 earthquake-damaged libraries can be reopened.
“We’ve been augmenting our normal stops so we can at least attempt to provide service,” said Robert Reagan, libraries spokesman. “It’s a stopgap until we can get these buildings reopened.”
In addition to their normal routes, the bookmobiles will stop at the Granada Hills Branch parking lot on Petit Avenue and the West Valley Regional Branch Library parking lot on Vanowen Street on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Bookmobiles that normally stop at the Nordhoff-Woodley community and Fallbrook-Victory community will increase their Monday hours to 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Additional stops are planned for San Fernando Gardens, West Van Nuys and Canyon Plaza Shopping Center.
Two more branches--Sherman Oaks and Canoga Park--are expected to reopen March 14, Reagan said.
Anyone who checked out materials from branches closed after the Northridge earthquake is asked to keep the items until the branch reopens. No fines will be charged.
