ALL ABOARD: No one was more thrilled by Friday’s decision to extend Metrolink service to Oxnard (B1) than the folks who live near the Moorpark train yard. . . . Four commuter trains have been based in Moorpark, prompting complaints from residents about engines that start revving at 3 a.m. . . . Now, only two trains will be docked in Moorpark. The other two will spend the night in Montalvo. . . . “I think it’s wonderful,” said Connie Lawrason, the wife of Moorpark’s mayor. “It’s sure going to please the neighbors around there.”

SUPER SHAKER: New data released Friday (A26) showed that some of the heaviest shaking in the Jan. 17 earthquake was experienced in Ventura County and other areas far from the quake’s epicenter. . . . The data is based on the Mercalli scale, which uses interviews and damage observations to show how severely the quake was felt in different areas. . . . Interviews showed 100% of those surveyed in Ventura County were awakened by the quake.

HANG TIME: One day after Cal Lutheran either is eliminated or wins the NCAA Division III tournament, Coach Mike Dunlap will fly 12,000 miles to take over as coach of a team in Australia’s professional basketball league (C16). . . . The most successful basketball coach in the school’s history lives by a simple motto: “Once you get too comfortable, it’s time to move on.” . . . Dunlap will lead the Kingsmen into the first round of the tournament tonight at UC San Diego.

HEROIC EFFORT: As Irma Lopez lay wounded and unable to walk last December, felled by a gunman’s bullet outside an Oxnard jobs office, she thought she was about to die. That’s when Ray Gonzales stepped in and dragged her to safety. . . . On Tuesday, the Oxnard insurance salesman will by honored by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for his heroism. . . . “I don’t think of myself as a hero,” said Gonzales, a Port Hueneme resident. “I’d like to think if that had been my sister or my wife or my mom, somebody would have stepped in and done the same thing.”
