The Toronto Maple Leafs are used to working a little extra when they play their Central Division rivals, the Detroit Red Wings, so Friday was nothing new.

For the fourth time in less than a year, including two playoff games, the Maple Leafs won at Detroit, 6-5, in overtime on Wendel Clark’s third goal of the game.

It moved the Maple Leafs into a tie with the Red Wings for first place in the East, though Detroit has a game in hand.

It was Clark’s second hat trick in as many games.

“I think we’ve been very lucky,” said Clark. “They have a great, great hockey club, and we have to play our best just to compete with them. This is a great rivalry.”

Vancouver 4, Dallas 1--Pavel Bure scored his 39th goal as the Canucks won at Dallas and denied goaltender Andy Moog his 300th victory.

Winnipeg 6, Ottawa 1--Nelson Emerson triggered a five-goal second-period outburst with his 25th of the season as the Jets won at Minneapolis.

Washington 3, Philadelphia 3--Garry Galley’s second goal of the game, with 1:07 to play in regulation, enabled the Flyers to salvage a tie at Landover, Md.

Hartford 2, Florida 1--Todd Harkins’ first goal of the season led the Whalers at Miami.

Buffalo 2, Pittsburgh 1--Craig Muni’s short-handed goal in the second period proved to be the game-winner at Buffalo.

New York Islanders 3, New York Rangers 3--Derek King’s second goal of the game lifted the Islanders into a tie at Madison Square Garden.
