OUTLOOK

In his first season, Draeger led Santiago to one of its best seasons in years. But Draeger had two proven pitchers last season--a luxury he doesn’t have this time around. “Our concern is definitely pitching,” Draeger said. “We don’t have anybody who is dominant.” Draeger is hoping Castaneda, who threw only a handful of varsity innings last year, and Wiemann will come through and be quality Nos. 1 and 2 pitchers. On the positive side, Draeger is excited about his hitting. “I think we’re going to hit the ball,” he said. “We’re not going to be hitting the long ball much, but I think we can be at least 7-7 (in league).” Draeger thinks Robledo might be his best player: “If he plays to his potential, he’ll have a lot of people looking at him.” Duran (.390), who caught nearly every inning last year, should be able to help the young pitchers mature. Callari, a transfer from Rancho Alamitos, will provide some speed in the outfield and on the bases.
