Fullerton Rolls Despite Drought

Cal State Fullerton went 7 minutes 42 seconds in the second half without scoring Saturday but still managed to defeat UC Santa Barbara, 79-63, in a Big West Conference game in Titan Gym.

Darren Little scored 20 points, Winston Peterson had 16 points and nine rebounds, and senior guard Greg Vernon had 13 points, eight assists and eight rebounds in the final home game of his four-year Fullerton career, as the Titans improved to 8-18, 6-12.

Fullerton took a 63-47 lead on Peterson’s jump hook with 11:12 remaining but didn’t score again until Little’s free throws with 3:29 left. The Gauchos (13-16, 9-9) scored nine consecutive points to make it 63-56 with 5:50 to go, but poor shooting--they shot 34.2% from the field--prevented a bigger comeback.
