THE WINE LIST

Share

It may not be a trend yet, but Clearwater Cafe has the first wine list I have seen with a section devoted to wines made from organically farmed grapes, which are grown without pesticides, fungicides or chemical fertilizers. The five-wine category includes the two widest-selling organic wines from Fetzer Vineyards.

There is a changing list of micro-brewed beers on tap. Recently, it included Big Rock XO Lager and Royal Coachman Dry Ale, both from Canada; Oregon Honey Beer and Widmer Hefeweizen, an unfiltered wheat beer, both from Portland; St. Rogue Red, a hearty brew from Newport, Ore., and Grant’s Scottish Ale from Yakima, Wash. All brews may be ordered by the pint or 12-ounce glass.

The all-West Coast wine list, heavy on the whites because of the seafood emphasis, has a number of good values, including 1991 Benziger Fume Blanc, $19; 1992 Frog’s Leap Sauvignon, $18; 1991 Navarro Gewurztraminer, $18, and 1991 Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay, $19.
