TEMPLE CITY : Ex-Deputy Changes Plea to No Contest

Share

Glen Cozart, a former deputy sheriff being prosecuted in Los Angeles Superior Court for planting false evidence and other criminal charges, unexpectedly changed his innocent plea Monday to no contest.

The change of plea came in the midst of jury selection. Cozart, 32, could now receive up to four years in state prison when he returns to court April 11 for sentencing.

A 10-year Sheriff’s Department veteran and former field training officer at the Temple station, Cozart was charged with planting phony evidence, filing a false report and lying in court after he arrested three suspects in 1990 and discrepancies in his testimony caught the attention of court officials.
