Share

A head-on collision injured three people, closed California 33 for an hour, and may have contributed to a second accident in Oak View, officials said Thursday.

With the highway closed in both directions near Creek Road after the 2:30 p.m. accident, firefighters worked for nearly half an hour to extricate two people from their mangled pickup, county fire officials said.

The two victims were taken to Ojai Valley Community Hospital with serious injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A passenger from the other truck sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the Ojai Valley hospital, authorities said.

Their conditions were not available late Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The collision occurred when one truck drifted across California 33 and slammed into an oncoming vehicle, fire officials said.

Shortly after the crash, traffic was rerouted to Creek Road, where a motorcyclist sustained a broken leg in a second accident at 2:49 p.m., according to Ojai authorities.

The motorcycle accident may have been related to the increased traffic on Creek Road, police said.

The names and hometowns of all the victims were withheld by the California Highway Patrol.

California 33 was reopened at 3:44 p.m.
