NHL ROUNDUP : Sharks Win and Increase Lead Over Ducks, Kings

Sandis Ozolinsh scored twice, snapping a 2-2 tie as the San Jose Sharks tied a franchise-best five-game unbeaten string with a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders at San Jose.

The Sharks, who increased their lead to eight points over the Mighty Ducks and nine over the Kings in the Pacific Division, improved to 3-0-2 in their last five games. San Jose’s 4-0-1 run from November 3 to December 5 matched its best unbeaten run in its history.

Philadelphia 8, Ottawa 2--Eric Lindros had a goal and five assists at Philadelphia as the Flyers moved a point ahead of idle Florida for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Rod Brind’Amour and Andre Faust each scored twice as the Flyers improved their record to 3-0-1 against Ottawa this season.

New York Rangers 2, Boston 2--Greg Gilbert’s third-period goal at Boston gave the Rangers a tie in a battle of the Eastern Conference’s top two teams.

New York, 4-1-2 in its last seven games, has 92 points and maintained its eight-point lead over the Bruins, 6-1-2 in their last nine.

New Jersey 4, Hartford 0--The Devils scored on three of their first five shots at East Rutherford, N.J., as they extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2) and improved their record in the last 11 games to 7-1-3.

Toronto 4, Pittsburgh 2--Dave Andreychuk scored a historic goal as the Maple Leafs ended the Penguins’ five-game home unbeaten streak.

Andreychuk’s 48th goal tied Frank Mahovlich’s Maple Leaf record for goals by a left wing.

Quebec 4, Montreal 4--Bob Bassen capped a three-goal rally by scoring with 3:43 left in the third period, giving the Nordiques the tie at Quebec.
