COLLEGE ROUNDUP : The Master’s Pounds SCC Pitching, 15-4
The Master’s pounded Southern California College pitching for 15 hits and took advantage of seven errors to win, 15-4, in a nonconference baseball game Thursday in Newhall.
The Master’s (6-10-2) scored four runs in the first, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead against starter Augie Pena (1-2).
Steve Smith had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs, and Mark Vail added three hits and four RBIs for The Master’s.
Ila Borders, making her first relief appearance, entered in the eighth inning trailing 11-4. She walked the leadoff batter, and three ground-ball errors and a single gave The Master’s four unearned runs. SCC is 6-12.
In another nonconference baseball game:
UC San Diego 4, Concordia 1--Concordia (5-11) fell behind 3-0 after three innings and was held hitless 7 1/3 innings. The Eagles managed only two hits.
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s tennis:
Point Loma Nazarene 9, Southern California College 0--SCC’s Ross Andel won his first set against Victor Vernis, 6-4, but dropped the next two, 6-1, 6-4.
