LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Century-San Diego Freeway Connector Ramp Opens

Share

A ramp connecting the westbound Century Freeway to the northbound San Diego Freeway opened Friday, one portion of the largest freeway interchange in California, officials said.

The ramp becomes the fourth of eight connector ramps to open on the $145-million interchange connecting the two freeways. The interchange is part of the $2.2-billion Century Freeway, which opened in October and stretches 17.3 miles from Norwalk to El Segundo.

“This ramp will greatly improve commuting times for motorists making the transition between these two major freeways,” said Jerry Baxter, Caltrans district director. Since the earthquake, traffic on the freeway has risen as motorists seek alternatives to quake-damaged routes.

The remaining ramps on the interchange are expected to be opened in June.
