Guilty Plea Entered in Thefts From Banks
A 26-year-old man who used fake identification and credit cards to withdraw $17,800 from seven banks in Ventura County pleaded guilty Friday and faces nearly three years in prison.
David Jeffrey Wilkinson of West Hollywood is scheduled to be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Charles R. McGrath on April 15.
He pleaded guilty to the nine most serious charges contained in the 40-count complaint against him, said Deputy Dist. Atty. William R. Redmond.
Wilkinson admitted to four counts of commercial burglary, three counts of grand theft and two counts of fraudulent use of an access card, the prosecutor said.
Wilkinson withdrew money from six Bank of A. Levy branches between Thousand Oaks and Ventura and one Bank of America branch in Camarillo, Redmond said.
Ventura County East Valley Division sheriff’s investigators were able to link him to the thefts after he was arrested in a similar case in Santa Barbara County, according to Redmond, who said the stolen ID and credit cards originated in Atlanta.
He said he was unaware whether Wilkinson is involved in a credit-card ring.
Wilkinson remained in custody at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. He faces up to 30 months in prison.
