Mario Lemieux is still not completely fit and he won’t play for the Pittsburgh Penguins today at Hartford.

That’s because he played Saturday against the New York Rangers, who probably wish he would choose different days off.

Limited because of his back problems and playing only his 13th game in the Penguins’ 68th, Lemieux scored two goals and had two assists in a 6-2 victory over the Rangers in Pittsburgh.

“I’m getting a little bit better, but I’m not 100% yet,” he said.

After being outshot, 17-0, in the first 10 minutes, Pittsburgh scored five goals on 10 shots to take charge against the team that leads the NHL in points with 92.

Montreal 4, Philadelphia 4--Vincent Damphousse flipped the puck over the back of the net and it hit the Flyers’ Dave Tippett and rolled in for a goal with 1:16 left in the third quarter to give the Canadiens a tie at Montreal.

New Jersey 2, Boston 1--Goaltender Chris Terreri stretched his unbeaten streak to nine games and ended John Casey’s at 14 by stopping 33 shots as the Devils beat the Bruins at East Rutherford, N.J.

The victory extended the Devils’ unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2).

Hartford 2, Dallas 2--Mike Modano reached the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career, scoring with 9:42 to play as the Stars tied at Hartford.

Modano offset a two-goal performance by the Whalers’ Geoff Sanderson, who raised his team-leading total to 35.

Calgary 2, San Jose 0--Mike Vernon made 16 saves and German Titov and Gary Roberts each scored a goal as the Flames won at home with only 20 shots to increase their Pacific Division lead over Vancouver to eight points.

Quebec 4, Washington 3--Mats Sundin’s power-play goal midway through the third period broke a tie and gave the Nordiques a victory that deprived Capital goalie Don Beaupre of his 250th victory in his fifth try at it.

Toronto 3, Winnipeg 1--Dave Andreychuk set a Maple Leaf record for a left wing with his 49th goal at Toronto, and they beat the Jets for their third victory in a row.

New York Islanders 5, St. Louis 5--Steve Thomas scored his second goal of the game with 3:07 to play to give the Islanders a tie at St. Louis, where newly acquired Peter Stastny and Petr Nedved each scored their first goals for the Blues.
