ANAHEIM : Group Honors 2 as Officers of the Year

A gang enforcement detective and a patrol officer have been named Anaheim Police Officers of the Year by a local community group.

Investigator Lee Smith and Officer Jaime Dodge were honored recently by the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Smith, a 10-year veteran of the department, was one of the first gang experts in the county and has been instrumental in solving several gang-related homicides, Lt. Ted Labahn said.

Smith is also a member of the department’s SWAT team and holds a black belt in karate.

Dodge is a 12-year veteran of the department and has taken a lead role in a program to eradicate prostitution, drug activity and violent crime along Beach Boulevard, Labahn said.

She is one of the founders of the Women in Law Enforcement Assn., which seeks to help women cope with the demands of police work.
