Ewald T. Grether; Founding Dean of UC Berkeley Business School
Ewald T. Grether, 94, founding dean of the University of California at Berkeley’s business school. Grether, who was dean from 1941 to 1961, was a consultant to three U.S. presidents and an adviser to California Gov. Earl Warren on water resources development, employment and unemployment insurance and industrial development. Grether reorganized the school’s college of commerce, which was established in 1898, into the School of Business Administration, the predecessor of the Haas School of Business. He retired in 1961 and died in Berkeley on Friday.
