NIXON’S TAYLOR: Maybe you recognized the face: Standing alongside Richard Nixon on news clips of his current Russian trip is Orange County’s John Taylor. . . . He’s director of the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace in Yorba Linda and a longtime associate of the former President. He’d been on previous Nixon trips to China and the Soviet Union. Library spokesman Kevin Cartwright says Taylor’s trip has been exciting but hectic: “He’s sending back a lot of middle-of-the-night voice mails.”

IT’S THE OTHER GUYS: White Water Realty, near the pier in San Clemente, has decided to have a bit of fun with seeing its name turned into a household word, thanks to the Clinton Administration. Its new sign, with a smiley face, says “No! We are not affiliated with the Whitewater Development Co. in Arkansas.” Says a spokeswoman: “We’ve been here for years, even longer than those people have been in Arkansas. . . .” There’s also a White Water Capital in Newport Beach. They’ve got no kin in Clinton’s home state either.

ANY GENERATION: He was a counterculture hero in the ‘60s. But every decade, it seems, a new crop of readers discover Kurt Vonnegut (“Cat’s Cradle,” “Slaughterhouse Five”). He’s written 14 novels, but Vonnegut could easily make a living these days with his highly paid college lectures. . . . The author says he’ll give his “most requested” lecture at UC Irvine’s Bren Center tonight at 7:30: “How to Get a Job Like Mine.” Tickets for his speech are $13.

SHEAR FUN: One sign that winter is over and warm weather is here to stay: Godzilla is ready to shed his coat. He’s the large Suffolk sheep at the Santa Ana Zoo, and folks there have built an annual festival around shearing the wool from Godzilla and his four fellow sheep. Many area elementary schools are sending classes on field trips to the event at 10 a.m. today. The wool goes straight to the spinning wheel, where veteran spinners will help the children transform it into refined yarn in a demonstration.
