THOUSAND OAKS : Las Casitas Flood Channel to Be Fenced
Residents of Thousand Oaks’ Las Casitas neighborhood will soon see a long-awaited fence blocking off a flood control channel that had been used as a campsite for revelers and transients.
The City Council on Tuesday authorized a contract with the Ventura County Flood Control District to build a wrought-iron fence around the concrete channel, which residents described as dangerous and unsightly.
In pressing for the wall, residents had argued that installing a wrought-iron fence atop an existing block wall would prevent teen-agers and homeless people from clambering into the flood control channel. The fence, they said, would help the neighborhood by cutting down on noise and graffiti.
“I think it will prove very effective in the long run,” Councilwoman Judy Lazar agreed.
The Las Casitas homeowners association and the city will each kick in $97,200, and the flood control district will add $8,000 to build the fence along the South Branch Arroyo Conejo.
“This agreement basically signs, seals and delivers this very important project for the neighborhood,” Assistant City Manager MaryJane Lazz said.
