BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Trade Talk Surprises Snow

First baseman J.T. Snow said he was surprised when he heard that he might be involved in a trade for New York Met pitcher Anthony Young.

“It was definitely a bit of a shock,” he said, “but it’s one of those things that you have no control over, so I’m trying not to dwell on it, especially until something actually happens.”

Snow said he would like to be an Angel long enough to show the team he’s capable of becoming a consistent force at the plate.

“I would love to keep playing here--I grew up in the area--but I’d prefer to reserve my true feelings until something happens,” he said.

Angel Manager Buck Rodgers, perhaps laying the groundwork for the reasoning behind a trade, said the jury is still out on Snow.

“I think everyone agrees that he’s still one hell of a prospect, but he’s still in the prospect range,” Rodgers said. “This is an endurance contest and you have to have a strong will to make it through.”

Bob Harrison, special assistant to the general manager, said the deal was “not cut and dried,” but seemed to indicate it was a strong possibility. The Angels believe Young is much better than his 1-16 record of last season.
