Kerrigan’s Bad Rap

Share

In Greg Braxton’s “Skategate: And Now the Movies” (March 3), he refers to Nancy Kerrigan’s derogatory comments while making a Disney World appearance as aired on NBC-TV.

I saw the NBC report that outlined Kerrigan’s attitude toward the press and, seemingly , the Disney appearance where the microphones caught her sorry cracks to Mickey Mouse, who rode in the parade car with her.

When I read in The Times’ Sports section that Kerrigan denied she meant criticism of Disney World and was referring to her mother’s “order” that she wear her silver medal, I thought Kerrigan was covering up to retain her lucrative Disney contract. However, on ABC News, I saw tape of Kerrigan riding with Mickey that showed a totally different version of her comments that proved her case: Her unhappiness was over wearing the Olympic medal, which she considered “bragging.”

The person at NBC who inserted the derogatory bias against Kerrigan deserves to be fired.
