Loblolly Partnership to End, Anthony Says
The thoroughbred farm that produced the last two Preakness winners will phase out its operation, beginning by disposing of much of its stock at Keeneland’s Summer and Fall Sales.
Loblolly co-owner John Ed Anthony said Friday that the dispersal is intended to dissolve the partnership with his former wife, Mary Lynn Dudley, and he plans to remain in racing and breeding and remain active at sales.
Loblolly, based at Lake Hamilton, Ark., will wind down its operations in the normal course of racing in the next few years under the direction of trainer Tom Bohannan.
On the auction block at Keeneland will be 21 yearlings, plus all mares who are in foal and under 15 years of age.
The Loblolly 2-year-old crop of 1994 will join the older horses in training to constitute a racing stable of about 40 head.
