Two men were arrested Saturday after they barricaded themselves in a Harper Street residence for more than five hours and peppered a back alley with rifle shots, authorities said.

No one was injured, but deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department counted at least 10 gunshots after they were called by neighbors to check the house at 14901 Harper St.

The incident started at 3:43 a.m. and prompted the Sheriff’s Department to send out a special tactical unit to surround the house, said Lt. Dan Martini. Other deputies sealed off the area, he said.

About 9 a.m., Gerardo Palma Jr., 23, and Rony Valenzuela, 26, emerged from the residence and were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The shots appeared to have been fired in the direction of a home on Wilson Street, authorities said.

“We’re not sure why the weapon was fired, but we do have some weapons that were confiscated,” said Martini, who did not disclose the types of weapons police found.
