Schaefer Trails Robings in Funds

Ventura County supervisorial candidate Madge L. Schaefer has raised $5,848 since the beginning of the year, while opponent H. Jere Robings reported a cash total of $13,770, including a $10,000 personal loan, according to recent finance statements.

The two were among several Ventura County candidates whose campaign finance statements were received Wednesday by the county elections office. Other candidates’ reports were available earlier.

Schaefer’s single largest contribution of $1,800 came from the Public Employees Assn. of Ventura County. The former supervisor also loaned her campaign $2,000.

In addition to his $10,000 loan, Robings received contributions of $500 from various individuals and property management firms.

Meanwhile, Moorpark City Councilman Scott Montgomery, who is seeking the supervisor’s seat being vacated by Vicky Howard, reported a single personal loan of $2,000.

Financial statements from two candidates for county auditor-controller also were received Wednesday. Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton, who reported $2,256 cash on hand at the beginning of the year, showed no new contributions, and accountant Clifford Wigen reported a single personal loan of $5,027. A financial report from accountant Richard Morrisset had not been received by the elections office.

In other races, County Clerk Richard Dean, who is seeking reelection, reported a single personal loan of $7,943, while his opponent, Daniel Schmidt, raised less than $1,000.

In the race for county tax assessor, incumbent Glenn E. Gray loaned his campaign $5,889 and reported no other contributions. His opponent, Jack Tingstrom, raised less than $1,000.

Assistant Dist. Atty. Colleen Toy White, who is competing for the judicial seat left vacant by retired Superior Court Judge Edwin M. Osborne, reported total cash contributions of $4,150. The finance report of defense attorney James M. Farley, White’s only opponent, was not immediately available.
