CALABASAS : Hearing on Ridgeline Structures Planned

A proposal to restrict satellite dishes, fences and other structures on or near ridgelines will be the topic of a public hearing Thursday night.

The Calabasas Planning Commission hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 26135 Mureau Road.

If passed, the proposed revisions to the scenic corridor ordinance would require homeowners and builders who want to put up minor structures in designated scenic areas to apply for a permit, pay an application fee of about $150, and possibly plant trees and shrubs to hide the structure.

The proposal applies to fences 6 feet or taller, patios, patio covers, gazebos, decks and landscaping. Also covered are antennas, satellite dishes, certain type signs, and certain kinds of home additions.

Associate planner Anna Lisa Hernandez said the Planning Department forwarded the proposal after hearing concerns from residents and planning commissioners that people have been installing satellite dishes and fences that are unsightly or block views.
