BREA : Developer Fees Hiked to Help Schools

Share

The Brea Olinda Unified School District board has increased developer fees to generate revenue for new buildings and expansions of district schools.

Any resident or developer who plans to add rooms to homes or build houses that exceed 500 square feet must now pay the district $1.72 per square foot--7 cents more than the current fee, Assistant Supt. Gary D. Goff said.

In addition, anyone planning to build commercial buildings will pay the district 28 cents per square foot--1 cent more than the current fee.

Goff said the fee helps pay for adding classrooms to schools and building new facilities for instructional purposes.

The board voted 5-1 in favor of the increase.

Board member Todd A. Spitzer voted against the increase. Spitzer said he opposes developer fees.
