HUNTINGTON BEACH : Sketches of Film Costumes on Display
Color sketches of costumes worn in “Spartacus,” “The Ten Commandments” and other films will be on display at the Newland House Museum until Sunday.
The sketches were drawn by former Hollywood costume designers Julia Gamble and the late F. Arlington Valles.
Gamble, who has lived in Huntington Beach for the last 23 years, began her career in 1935 when she designed costumes for the movie “The Good Earth.” She worked for MGM Studios and designed costumes in foreign locations as well. She retired in 1960 after her costumes for “Spartacus” won an Oscar.
The museum is open Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., but is closed on rainy days. It is located at 19820 Beach Blvd. and a $2 donation is requested.
