Kill 710 Extension, Preservationist Urges

Share

The proposed extension of the Long Beach Freeway through South Pasadena, Pasadena and the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles should be rejected, the president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation told Los Angeles business and community leaders recently.

Richard Moe, head of the Washington-based organization, called for a shift in transportation dollars from cars to mass transit at a recent Los Angeles Town Hall meeting.

The proposed extension from the Foothill Freeway to the San Bernardino Freeway would reportedly destroy nearly 1,000 homes, including a number of historic buildings. For the last four years, South Pasadena has appeared on the trust’s list of the most endangered places in America.
