VENTURA : 10 Named to Design and Planning Panels

Share

After screening dozens of applications and spending hours interviewing, the Ventura City Council has appointed 10 residents to the city’s Planning Commission and Design Review Committee.

Residents will serve one- to three-year terms on the advisory panels. The seven-member Planning Commission oversees land-use approvals, future planning, commercial and residential development proposals and some design review.

The five-member Design Review Committee makes recommendations to the Planning Commission about the design of a proposed project. Decisions by either panel can be appealed to the City Council.

Ingrid Elsel, Mike Jones, Sandy Smith, Ted Temple and Chuck Thomas were appointed Monday night to the Planning Commission. Bob Blossom, Dayle Henry, and Nick Deitch were appointed to the Design Review Committee. Curt Stiles and Al Okuma were named to both panels.

Applicants were screened by the council’s Appointment Recommendation Committee, which first reviewed written applications and then conducted oral interviews. Council members Gregory L. Carson, Rosa Lee Measures and Jim Monahan made the recommendations to the full council Monday.

Next week, the council is expected to appoint 14 residents to the Community Affairs Commission, Arts and Cultural Affairs Committee, Tourism and Special Events Committee and Historical Preservation Committee.
