Wilson Appoints 2 to Fair Board

John Moriarty of Calabasas and Robert Wilcox of Northridge have been appointed to the San Fernando Valley Fair Board of Directors by Gov. Pete Wilson.

Moriarty is a trial attorney who has practiced in Van Nuys for 20 years. Wilcox has been president of Wilcox Public Relations of Los Angeles since forming the firm last year.

The appointees replace outgoing board members Rockwell Ames and Dallas Boardman. Ames joined in 1990 and Boardman, who was board president from 1985 to 1989, served since 1982.

At its March 18 meeting, the board gave Boardman the Western Fairs Assn. Blue Ribbon Award. Also at the meeting, the board members elected Sal Buccieri of Sepulveda president. Pamela Corradi of Burbank will serve as second vice president and Joyce Van Schaack of Tarzana will serve as first vice president.

Fair board members are gubernatorial appointees who serve four-year terms without pay.

The board members also decided to waive competitive exhibit fees for this year’s fair, though prize money and awards will still be given out.

In previous years, entry fees totaled only about $4,000, said Georgia Cluver, spokeswoman for the 51st District Agricultural Assn., which puts on the fair.

“It cost more in time and people to process those fees,” Cluver said, explaining why the fees were waived.

The fair, in its 48th year, will run July 21 to 24 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, with an Old West theme titled “We’ve Got Your Fun Covered.”
