LAGUNA BEACH : Commercial Filmed at State Park Beach

Share

What looked like a battle Thursday between two groups of warriors on the beach at Crystal Cove State Park was actually a film crew shooting a commercial for a Japanese noodle company.

The crew of about 100 actors, dressed as cavemen, and camera operators spent two days on the beach at the state park about 500 yards north of cottages while shooting the commercial for the Nissin Food company, according to a park spokesman. A Los Angeles-based production company did the film shoot.

Don Ito, the state parks superintendent for the Orange Coast district, said residents’ concerns that the filming was destroying natural habitat on the bluffs and the beach turned out to be unfounded. The production company had the proper permits and also paid an off-duty park ranger $30 an hour to monitor the film shoot for two days, Ito said.

“In our view, there was no damage to the resource,” Ito said after visiting the site Thursday. “The film crew was very cooperative and complied with all the requirements of the permit. They did everything right.”
