As a direct result of earthquake damage, quite a few of the bargain sources that have appeared in this column have either moved or closed.

Lou Marsten, owner of The Wallpaper Bin, assessed his options around noon Jan. 17. His store at the Tampa Plaza Mall was hit hard. Within hours, he signed a lease on a new location and was salvaging his merchandise. Less than two weeks later, after the specialized carpentry work required to display hundreds of wallpaper patterns was completed, he started doing business at 17139 Ventura Blvd., Encino, (818) 886-1291.

Marguerite Markarian, proprietor of The Bead Source, found herself knee-deep in thousands of beads that needed sorting. The structural damage was too devastating at her shop, so Markarian moved up the street to 7047 Reseda Blvd., Northridge, (818) 708-0972.

Bay City Kitchens suffered severe damage at its 1302 Santa Monica Blvd. site and lost a lot of merchandise, but it’s still in business around the corner at 1412 14th St., (310) 395-8877. The damaged original store should reopen in June.

Beds Unlimited has relocated to 7045 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park, (818) 996-4653.

Foot Fiesta closed its Saugus store but recently reopened its Chatsworth store, which had been heavily damaged, at 10206 Mason Ave. (818) 886-4966.

Steven Craig Wholesale Clothiers is at 19365 Business Center Drive, Northridge, about 20 yards from where the freight train derailed. Shelley Pepper, owner of this men’s apparel shop, is still awaiting an assessment of damage to decide whether to reopen. For an update, call (818) 701-7474.

Open for business after temporary closure are the Robinsons-May Clearance Center, 8252 Van Nuys Blvd., Panorama City, (818) 338-5253; Nordstrom Rack, 21500 Victory Blvd., Woodland Hills, (818) 884-6771; and its next-door neighbor, Designer Labels for Less Clearance Center, 21494 Victory Blvd., (818) 888-1891. In the same mall on Victory Boulevard at Canoga Park Avenue, The Designer Outlet, which sold women’s apparel, has closed for good.

The Kids Cottage, a consignment store for children’s apparel on West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, also has closed its doors, due to earthquake-related damage.

For those who may clip these columns, what the earthquake didn’t do, the recession and other demands did, so delete the following bargain sources that have folded up and slipped away: ABC Premiums, Ann & Eve, Bizarre Bazaar, California Consignment, Clearance Club, Formal Wear Club, HRD Distributors, Jerrolds, L.A. Bike, Lighting Trends, Louise the Liquidator, Munchkins, Rattan Distribution Warehouse and Sibella.
