Teledyne Ryan Is Fined: Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical Inc. has agreed to pay a $500,000 fine to federal officials, the largest in history for releasing toxic materials into San Diego’s sewers. The aerospace firm will pay the fine to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for discharging waste water with excessive amounts of chromium into city sewers between July, 1988, and March, 1991. The discharges violated the federal Clean Water Act. Teledyne said it agreed to pay the fine to avoid a costly trial, but it disagrees with the EPA’s analysis of its waste water. The EPA said the company is now complying with federal law.
