SYLMAR : 12 People Injured in Freeway Crashes
A dozen people received minor injuries when a hit-and-run driver plowed into a car and triggered two separate collisions involving eight vehicles on the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said Friday.
The driver of a white pickup truck was traveling south on the Golden State Freeway near the Balboa Boulevard off-ramp when he could not stop in time and struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle, which crashed into the car in front of it, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
After losing control, the utility truck careened into the center divider. When it swerved back into traffic, it was rear-ended by a fourth car.
Five minutes after the 10:06 p.m. collision on Thursday, a van driver who saw the pileup made a sudden stop and was struck from behind by another car. That accident caused another chain of crashes.
All motorists injured in the accidents were taken to various hospitals.
