$318,306 Quake Relief Given by United Way
United Way of Greater Los Angeles made earthquake-relief grants totaling $318,306 last week to 31 agencies in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.
The grants were the second wave of such distributions from the United Way’s Earthquake Relief Fund since the Jan. 17 Northridge quake.
In February, the fund distributed $624,618 to 45 organizations that have provided services to earthquake victims or community-service agencies that had quake-related damage themselves.
One of last week’s largest grants was $13,000 to El Nido Family Centers based in Van Nuys. The centers will use the money to provide counseling services and manage cases.
Grants of $10,000 each also went to Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Santa Clarita Valley, Girl Scouts of San Fernando Valley, and Woodcraft Rangers in Van Nuys.
