Cold-Hot Crenshaw Tied With Torrance

NEW ORLEANS — Ben Crenshaw’s eight birdies made up for four bogeys Saturday and he ended the day tied with Sam Torrance for the lead after three rounds of the $1.2-million Freeport-McMoRan Golf Classic.
Crenshaw and Torrance are at 11-under 205 heading into today’s final round.
“I’m proud of eight birdies, but not the four bogeys. That just won’t get it done,” Crenshaw said after his 68. “Fortunately I hit some good holes, too.”
Crenshaw, who started the day at seven under, bogeyed three holes for a 35 on the front nine.
Torrance, meantime, put together a 67.
“I played magnificent,” Torrance said. “It was as good as I can play.”
Torrance had six birdies, missing only one fairway and one green, and made his only bogey on No. 13 when he three-putted from three feet.
“I’m just trying to stay within myself and not push it,” Torrance said.
Jose Maria Olazabal, who shot a 63 on Thursday, shot 70 on Saturday for 207 after three rounds. Jim Furyk’s 66 on Saturday gave him a 208.
