HUNTINGTON BEACH : Golden West College Seeking Alumni

Share

Are you among the 75,000 people who have attended Golden West College? If so, the school is looking for you.

Officials are trying to locate at least 6,000 graduates to form the Golden West College Alumni Assn., spokeswoman Lori Thomas said.

The Golden West College Foundation is creating a database of names, addresses and phone numbers of former students, she said. Volunteers are also combing through old records to track down graduates.

Once officials create a network, they will invite graduates back to campus, where they can help the college offer an up-to-date education for current students, Thomas said.

“For community colleges to stay viable these days, they need more resources,” Thomas said. “For example, they need input from alumni who have become police officers and can come back to tell criminal justice students about what is important in police work today.”

Officials hope that former students can assist the college by raising money that would help the school keep up with technology. They also intend to start social activities such as picnics and reunions for graduates, Thomas said.
