Radio & Records Names New Chief Operating Officer

Erica Farber, who joined the trade publication Radio & Records in 1992 as executive vice president, sales and marketing, has been promoted to the post of chief operating officer.

* CBS Inc. executive Mark Harrington, who has been vice president of the network’s coverage of the Olympics since 1988, has been named to the new position of senior vice president, new media, at CBS Inc. Harrington, a former CBS News executive, will oversee the network’s activities in new technologies.

* Sony Pictures Entertainment has tapped Michael K. Fleming to be president of the Game Show Channel it plans to start later this year. Flemming had been a senior vice president of Playboy Entertainment Group’s pay TV operations.

* Steven Sandborg has joined Philips Interactive Media as vice president of marketing.

* Sega of America has named Tom Abramson, Diane Fornasier, Chris Garske and Bob Lindsey group directors.

* Stephanie Kluft has been promoted to director of national publicity at the Samuel Goldwyn Co.

* Playboy Entertainment Group has promoted Jeff Jenest to the new position of vice president, new business development. Previously, Jenest was senior vice president, home video. William Asher has been named manager of planning.

* Warner Bros. has recruited Knott’s Berry Farm executive Joe Meck to be general manager of its new theme park and studio complex in the Ruhr region of Germany.

* Hemdale Communications has formed a new record label, Hemdale Music, specializing in soundtracks and catalogue acquisitions, and named Robert Scharf as president. Scharf was a personal manager with Patrick Rains & Associates.

* Actor Alec Baldwin’s El Dorado Pictures has named Astri Kingstone as vice president.

* Ross Levinsohn, corporate marketing and public relations director at Time Warner Sports, has been promoted to the new position of director, production and marketing enterprises, Home Box Office.

* Lee Masters, chief executive of E! Entertainment Television, has been elected chairman of the ACLU Foundation of Southern California. Masters succeeds Atlantic Records President Danny Goldberg.

* Robert J. Mariano has been named vice president, network development, for Comspan, the Santa Monica-based TV program supplier. Mariano was a partner in Cable Broadcast Consultants.
