Share

Fifteen Ventura County physicians have volunteered to participate in a health fair April 16 sponsored by the Filipino Nurses Assn. in Oxnard, association members said.

The fair will offer health tests for breast, prostate and colon cancer, as well as blood-sugar testing and blood typing. Also offered will be dental and hearing exams, and tests for eye disorders, body fat, foot disorders and scoliosis. Most will be free.

Educational displays on AIDS, breast cancer, first aid, pregnancy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and quitting tobacco will be available.

“We’re trying to make the tests as affordable as possible,” coordinator Lyn Andres said. “If someone can’t afford it, we won’t force them to pay.” Numerous private and public agencies have agreed to co-sponsor the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oxnard Community Center, 800 Hobson Way.

Participating groups include the Filipino Community of Ventura County Inc., the Tri-County Regional Team, Tobacco Control Project, Norman Bartell’s Law Office, Prudential Insurance, Philippine-American Golf Assn., the American Diabetes Foundation and Mead Johnson.
