Express Bus Stop Is Made Permanent
The Commuter Express bus service between the new Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station and Los Angeles International Airport and El Segundo will be offered on a permanent basis, according to Los Angeles Department of Transportation officials.
Commuter Express Route 574, which had been running from Mission Hills to El Segundo since 1990, was extended to Sylmar on an emergency basis following the Northridge earthquake. It is being continued permanently because there is a sizable demand for the stop, according to department spokesman Philip Aker.
“People said that the Metrolink station was the perfect place for a bus stop,” Aker said. “We’re taking advantage of a multi-link station.”
Buses, which carry the logo LADOT, leave the Sylmar/San Fernando station at 12219 N. 1st St. every half-hour from 5:20 to 7:10 a.m., and return every half-hour from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Fares are $2.30 each way.
Travel time from Sylmar to El Segundo on the commuter buses is about 90 minutes.
In addition to linking northeast San Fernando Valley residents with LAX/El Segundo, Route 574 allows people to transfer in Encino and connect with similar routes serving the Valley, such as Commuter Express 573, which provides service to Westwood/Century City or Commuter Express 549, which serves the Burbank Media District, Glendale and Pasadena.
