Fast-Paced Medicine: Integrated Health Services Inc. is expanding its business to accommodate patients on the run.

The Orange company said that it is adding an outpatient center at its Orange Hills facility. Outpatient care is one of the fastest-growing segments of the health care industry because it allows patients to see doctors and be treated in settings that are less expensive than hospitals.

Company spokesman Phillip Joujon-Roche said that the addition of the outpatient center is a natural for Integrated Health Services, which operates so-called subacute centers.

Subacute centers are a hybrid of hospital wards and nursing homes. They accommodate patients too sick to send home but not ill enough to require the 24-hour care that a hospital provides.
