BUFFER ZONE: Officials today will hold a celebration at Olivas Adobe Park in honor of Ventura County’s newest greenbelt, a 4,575-acre stretch of farmland between Oxnard and Ventura. . . . S. district judge Monday changed the three-year prison sentence of Edwin M. Ives to one year in a halfway house and two years of house arrest under electronic surveillance. . . . “It sends a message that it’s OK to abuse farm workers without fear of going to jail,” said Martin Vasquez, regional manager for the United Farm Workers union.

DENMARK’S LIST: County officials Tuesday marked the 50th anniversary of Denmark’s refusal to turn over its Jewish population to the Nazis (B1). . . . Three local children took part in a nationwide letter-writing campaign to the queen of Denmark, whose grandfather led the resistance. . . . “I think that your grandfather and all of the other people who helped to rescue the Jewish people, our ancestors, were very courageous,” wrote 13-year-old Mia Bortolussi of Ventura.
